How it all started...
On June 15, 1952, the North Rock Hill Church of God (now known as Mt. Gallant Church of God was organized with 24 members.
It was located on Cedar Grove Lane. Rev. Charles Anderson was the pastor during this organizational period. The Church was begun in a 30 X 40 block building. This building had to be furnished with electrical lighting in order to be useable at night for revivals and night services. The Lord truly blessed during a revival that went on two weeks and because of this outpouring of the Spirit of the Lord, then church was organized.
The Pastors since the organization are: Charles Anderson, Colin Edwards, B. F. Case, B.P. Moss, Talmadge Bass, Roy Burroughs, Orville Hagan, Jack McClure, Charles Anderson, James B. Leonard, Oliver Howard, LeRoy Baldwin, John B. Moates, James E. Kelley, Dennis Buchanan, Thomas S. Doolittle, Anthony Browning, David Savage, and currently, Mike Welch.
Since the beginning, the Lord has blessed us with many improvements. During Pastor Edward's tenure, a parsonage on Cedar Grove Lane next to the Church was secured. Pastor Moss remodeled the parsonage and paid off the balance of the mortgage and the property. In 1958 Pastor Bass relocated the church from Cedar Grove Lane to Mt.Gallant Road. The property was sold (church and parsonage) and new property was purchased.
The Church erected a sanctuary and Sunday school department. In 1962, Pastor Burroughs purchased another lot beside the church and a seven-room parsonage was built.
In 1971, Pastor Hagan led another building program. A new sanctuary was added to the existing church building.
In 1976, three and one-half acres were secured and the remodeling of the parsonage and a Sunday school department with nursery was added.
Since the beginning, God has blessed us here at Mt. Gallant and He continues to bless His people. The Church property is a great accomplishment and it is something that not only the church but also the Rock Hill area can be proud of.
We thank God for His many blessings upon us here at Mt. Gallant.
